Some Wedding Trends & "Fun Facts" For 2009

According to Rhonda Bassat-Rivera, a wedding planner from Bride Ideas, LLC, here are the top three trends for  Spring/Summer 2009 weddings:

(1) Menu – personalizing with foods representing the couple’s heritage or favorite ethnic cuisine;
(2) Flowers – low centerpieces versus all highs or highs and lows; however, not all centerpieces are the same so as to give movement to the room;
(3) Entertainment – trend toward DJs, as they play the original artists and can play a wider variety of music


And the top three "hot colors" that brides are using for their color schemes for spring/summer weddings are: Chocolate/blue and chocolate/pink remain very popular with the elegant and sophisticated bride. Tropical colors like watermelon, mango, fuchsia, yellow and greens are very appealing to the bride who wants to personalize her theme to reflect either her cultural background or bring vibrant and trendy colors or flowers into her celebration.


According to The Wedding Report, here are some of the top overall wedding trends for 2009:

  • Smaller weddings are popular
  • Couples are hiring less expensive photographers
  • Do-it-yourself (DIY) wedding projects are common among brides
  • Couples are looking for "packages" from venues and vendors
  • The Internet is used in numerous ways during wedding planning
  • Cheesecakes, cupcakes and specialty desserts and trendy alternatives
  • Bolder and brighter colors are fashionable
  • Brides are creating their own bouquets
  • All-inclusive honeymoon packages and cruises are popular
  • Eco-friendly/green weddings and charitable giving are growing
